I sent an eBay item via USPS Medium Flat Rate Priority Mail box, and followed the tracking information. The final scan was done and reads "Delivered, In/At Mailbox". The recipient says that "The item was delivered by USPS according to tracking, but it is not in our mailbox." I have given the description of the Priority Mail box, suggested that he ask neighbors about the package, and contact the local post office. Is there something else I can do to help locate the package? Finally, what will happen if the package was lost or stolen? What is eBay's position on this? Thanks in advance for any comments.

This has happened to me 4 times. Usps worker has sticky fingers. I went to the post office each time and talked to them and filled out paperwork stating the item never arrived or the box was opened and empty (one time). 3 of the items were never found but 1 item showed up the next day in my mail box. I never tried to go through eBay for any help because they all were labeled as delivered.

You have $50. insurance on priority mail, unless you're a Commercial Plus customer.
Start the process now, it'll take a bit till they pay-off. Good luck.

If the package shows delivered both eBay and PayPal will count it as such.
Working directly with the post office of delivery is your best hope.

Maybe the recipient can ask the mail carrier if they put it in the mailbox. A USPS Medium Flat Rate Priority Mail box should be easy to remember.

File a complaint. It is probably your local carrier and he should be fired. It is unusual for small boxes to be stolen, so it is likely someone that knows you get coins.

Be very careful how you respond to the buyer. You don't know that the package was never actually delivered, if it says delivered I would assume it was delivered and leave it at that. eBay and them will side with you as long as you don't start corroborating his story in messages ect which is why you need to be careful how you respond. There really is no reason to believe that it isn't there when it says it is anyway.
Also he doesn't need you to ask the post office to track it or to go and claim he didn't get it. The only thing you can do that he can't is give him his money back and since it shows delivered your insurance claim with be denied and denied again upon appeal.

Just go through the proper eBay channel, and they will likely refund the buyer, and you will keep the $ paid you. Had a similar situation, and that's how it ended up.

Seller notified me that the package was delivered to the wrong mailbox. It was located and he now has the item. There are honest people everywhere. Ham

That is wonderful news. I have had a package or two sent to me that got delivered to the wrong address, and those never came to me. I have also had a package sent that was delivered to the wrong address, and it never showed up.

Folks DONT FORGET, the post office scanners record the GPS location of delivery as well as time. It gets resolved easily most times when searching these records. It is usually a misdelivered package 99% of time due to carrier fault or addressed wrong by sender. File claim w/PO and tell them to check while you wait, may require asking for supervisor or Postmaster's help. This was 10 years ago, I would deliver 50-80 mailbox parcels per day on SLOW days per my 702 customer route...only twice was there a mistake, one off mailbox deliveries, around the holidays too. Most carriers aren't smucks, those that are are taken off the mailroom floor in handcuffs, no questions asked...period! Saw that happen twice in six years, one clerk for swiping parcels(bypassed the scan) the other for steaming open cards and taking the cash from grandma out. 15-25 in Federal prisons is mandatory even first time offenders. I wasn't that "couregous" (stupid) to try. Part of a Shift Supervisor's responsibilities was to "covertly follow" a carrier on his route. Not only to look for suspected thieves, just your behavior and following rules(locking truck when get out, etc. ), they were pretty sneaky for sure! Former Rural Mail Carrier, USPS

I'm glad it turned out ok. My experiance is that eBay will refund the buyer no matter what. I have had four packages in 10 years where the PO said it was delivered, but the customer said it was not. So they refunded the buyer.

Same story here. Tracking number indicates "Delivered, In/At Mailbox" but there is no package anywhere to be seen.
