Thanks Bas S Warwick and TNG Verdi-Care, good point, although I am not sure if removing the green copperoxide would only have a bright side two other examples of the same type are shown in this thread http://goccf.com/t/316451the piece shown above is the best of the three it would be nice to have a better identification thanks CCF for your suggestions

I've recently ordered some Verdi-care to experiment on a few basic coins before trying on anything too valuable. Might try some before and after shots

Picked up this bronze small version California Bicentennial medal at a great price to go with these two I posted here. http://goccf.com/t/301479&whichpage=42#2719029I guess that leaves me wanting the more expensive large silver version to hunt down. I'll write up something about these when I find that one at a good price in nice condition.

This is a Solid Bronze Medal commemorating Lewis & Clark's "Voyage of Discovery". The medal was struck by the Medallic Art Company of Danbury, Connecticut. Medal shows Lewis & Clark in the foreground, with Sacagawea and other expedition members in the background. Obverse, with the legend "THE JOURNEY THAT SHAPED AMERICA'S DESTINY - LEWIS & CLARK". Reverse features an American Indian on horseback in the foreground, with a herd of Buffalo in the background, with the legend "MAH-DOOM-AY-NEEW KEE-NEE-TSEE-TAH-BEE - THE FIRST ONES". Bronze 38 mm in diameter. The Lewis and Clark Expedition from May 1804 to September 1806, also known as the Corps of Discovery Expedition, was the first American expedition to cross what is now the western portion of the United States. It began near St. Louis, made its way westward, and passed through the continental divide to reach the Pacific coast. The Corps of Discovery comprised a selected group of U.S. Army volunteers under the command of Captain Meriwether Lewis and his close friend, Second Lieutenant William Clark. President Thomas Jefferson commissioned the expedition shortly after the Louisiana Purchase in 1803 to explore and to map the newly acquired territory, to find a practical route across the western half of the continent, and to establish an American presence in this territory before Britain and other European powers tried to claim it. The campaign's secondary objectives were scientific and economic: to study the area's plants, animal life, and geography, and to establish trade with local Native American tribes. With maps, sketches, and journals in hand, the expedition returned to St. Louis to report its findings to Jefferson. Of course, there is much more to the story of the expedition than I can post here.

I have a spare one of these, so if anyone wants one please send me a PM. Bronze Medal issued to mark the end of WW1. Awarded the school children of the Commonwealth of Australia On the front "PEACE 1919", and AUSTRALIA. On the reverse top, "VICTORY" - "THE TRIUMPH OF LIBERTY AND JUSTICE" - "THE PEACE OF 1919". SIZE 27 mm diameter The medal was designed by Charles Douglas Richardson, better known for his work as a sculptor. Time constraints as well as pressure from the production of other victory medals meant that no single manufacturer could make the 1,670,000 medals. Six were therefore selected: Amor, Stokes, Schlank, Parkes, Angus & Coote (who later withdrew) and Platers.

Quote: I've recently ordered some Verdi-Care to experiment on a few basic coins before trying on anything too valuable. Might try some before and after shots good suggestion ! thanks ; a couple of queen Juliana cents Holland, perhaps from the 1960ies; collected those as a kid but in a certain way, the green color is quite amazing @TNG thanks for your help the obverse DIE SONNE DER GERECHTIGKEIT ERLEUCHTE MICH may mean: the sun of justice illuminates methe pun could be the link between light and enlightenment I suspect that this coin was produced at about a century earlier than the age of Enlightenment (1715-1789), so is seems far fetched to speculate about a token the German (Bavarian) branch of the Illuminati. more digging needed for the possible meaning of the REV.

very nice medals and tokens in this thread ! and interesting to read about the expedition of 1804-1806 here another somewhat older token (jeton) - also a recent acquisition Jeton made in the Spanish Netherlands to celebrate in 1679 the marriage of king Charles II of Spain (1661-1700) to Marie Louise d'Orleans (France) reference: Dugniolle 4431 OBV portrait of the king - CAROLVS II D G HISPAN REX REV two hands unite - CEST LE FRUIT DE LA PAIX / MARIAGE DU ROY a marriage to preserve peace between France and Spain after Charles died without an heir, peace evaporated quickly and the Spanish Succession War began perhaps this piece is also verdicarable (very careful of course) with the bits the green copper oxide but the green color is less in reality as it seems enhanced by the daylight photography Keep translating TNG
