Found this counter stamp half. The coin is spray painted gold. The stamp says 1960 to 1980. Any idea what this might specify?

1960 was the year of his election (even though he didn't officially take office until 1961); 1980 is obviously the 20th anniversary of that. More than that, I can't say.
Working on: Franklin halves (now complete!), Peace dollars (three to go), US type (Bust era), and just started Chinese pandas.

That's more then what I knew. I never would have but those two dates together for that. Maybe his birth and death anniversary. Who knows. Thanks!

These have been reported before with the same guess for the date significance.

I have seen an old advertisment from back when they were originally selling them and that was the explanation given in the ad, election and what would have been the 20th anniversary. They can also be found with 1960 and 1985 dates for the 25th anniversary.

@USSID18, very nice pick-up, although most likely gold plated rather than spray-painted gold. There are lots of threads with these posted in the past at CCF. Here are a couple to learn more:

Thanks Spence! You know, I was wondering about that finish. You're right, it doesn't look like spray-paint. The finish is much to smooth. Thanks for the links, let me go in and digest them.
