Hello everyone. I am new here, but am not exactly new to collecting. I used to do the whole Wheat cent thing with my grandfather and just started collecting some stuff for my son (who is a little over 18 months now).
My mother-in-law found out that I was starting up coin collecting again and discovered that her mother (who just died) had a quite impressive collection that dated back to the 1800s. She didn't exactly know what was in the collection because it was all loose in a box. So, my mother-in-law and her father decided that they wanted to give me the box of unknown coins to keep for my son. What a generous offer!
Anyays, they decided to go on vacation and while they were gone someone broke into the house and not only stole the box but some jewelry as well.
I can only imagine what could have been in this box and the fun my son and I could have had going through it when he gets older. I know there was a handful of silver, but could there have been any gold? <SIGH> If someone out there could grant me one wish, it would be to have 5 minutes alone to the scum that stole what didn't belong to them.

Oh yeah, if anyone runs into a mystery box of coins in Tucson Arizona, be sure to contact me!

Sorry about the bad luck and hopefully you can find out who did it. If you have not done so already, you may want to put some warnings out to the local coin dealers and pawn shops, hopefully the person that stole this is also an idiot and gets caught trying to sell them to someone.

I'm sorry to hear that. Do you have a description of any of the coins? That might help alert dealers who will look out for stolen coins and return to the rightful owner. I will pass along any descriptions to dealers I know.

Unfortunately there is no description because my mother-in-law and my wife's grandfather have no knowledge of coins so the sky's the limit with what could have been in there. I have a hidden fireproof safe for my coins and old baseball cards, but they were nowhere near doing anything like that.
