My name is Steve and I'm 63 and have collected a few coins in my life and would like to have someone tell me what my collection is worth. I live in the Sacramento Ca. area, so, if you are interested then please contact me and thanks for your interest.

Hi Steve. It's hard to value coins over the phone because of the difference small changes in grading can make. You would be better off taking digital photos of your coins and posting them so we can see the coins. If you haven't done this before then check out the digital photography section of this site.

Welcome Steve...remove your phone # to avoid spam calls...members will contact you through your member ID info..I agree with pyrbob..you will need to post some pictures for us to give you values..PS if you are looking to sell your coins, after 50 posts you can place items in the auction area...good luck!

You may want to check your local dealers as well. I know that my dealer will price out collections at a certain price (usually per hour) if it is a large collection, and free if it is small.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM. My suggestion is to make a list of what you have. Note the denominations, dates, mint marks and take a decent grade guess. If your not to familiar with the grades, just purchase a Red Book to get an idea. Note the Red Book is great for information but do not even start to think the prices are valid. The prices in that book are a joke. Then, pending on how many coins you have in your collection, try just sitting down and looking up similar ones on ebay, coin dealer web sites or even find a coin store and just go there and ask questions. One thing you could do is google for a list of coin shows in your area and go to a few for just information. If you do go to a coin show or coin store make sure you explain your just looking for an approximation of values and have no idea to sell. If you mention selling a coin, they will usually try to give you the lowest prices.

I just remembered you mentioned being 63 years old. Makes me remember that I've been collecting coin for more than that. Again, welcome to the forum.

gnlsjb......(Steve) Well...as others have said.....just dive in here and ask questions....get your "post # to 50" and have fun....then put up some digital pictures of coins you have questions on. You can have them graded here....you can sell them here.....or you can just collect admiring comments to what you have if you're not interested in selling them and only are curious as to the value. Either way.....just jump in and have fun here !

Welcome gnlsjb, I can hardly add to what has been stated above with regards to valuing your coins they pretty have provided you with all the options. I can say that I stumbled upon some world coins recently and had no idea what I was looking at Thailand, Israel, germany etc. and at a local coin show I purchased a world coin book that proved invaluable it is similar to the Red Book for US coins mentioned above but it covered world coins with general idea of price with regard to grade. Best of luck and welcome!

Steve! Nice to see you here! I think you've come to the right place to learn. You can find all the information you want for US coins in the US Coin Facts section, including grading pointers if you want to try a basic do it yourself grading. You can also find current market values on several sites, such as Heritage, Numismedia etc. As others have said...... This place just LOVES pics! again, and be sure to check out Coinaholics Anonymous! If you hang out here much, you just might need to join!

Welcome to the forum! Be careful you don't start learning so much you start collecting more - it happens . Also keep in mind the time spent learning about your collection is time well spent and will pay dividends both when you go to sell and even afterwards. Enjoy!
