I have a $25 roll of SBA's, each end shows a 1979p. Does anyone know if this means they are all 1979p's in the roll? I want to be able to tell without breaking it open if it's more valuable that way? I made an earlier post trying to determine if they are near or far dates...not sure if both near/far(wide rim or not) versions would be mixed in the same roll if the Federal Reserve rolls were comprised a certain way?

I've received a few rolls recently like that up here in the Detroit area and they have been consistent through out.

I poked around after reading your previous thread and couldn't find anything definitive. If they rolled up coins that came in bulk from the mint, then they'd probably all be 1979P. If they rolled up coins that came back from banks all over the place, it could be anything in there. These coins were very unpopular in circulation so it seems like banks would have returned tons of them to the fed if they were allowed to, which I don't know. I personally would never want to get involved in the whole "unsearched roll" thing if I was looking to sell.

I've heard accounts of near and far dates being mixed together, but by accounts I mean a single thread online somewhere that I forget where I found it. Thanks though, it def helps to hear people's real life experience opening rolls. I'm not really looking to sell anyways but am always interested in value in different states (rolled or not),mostly just curious about parts of my collection I've had since I was a kid. Thanks!

There is really no way to tell for 100% certain w/o knowing what the source/beginnings were. These could be rolls that a bank just returned to the fed in a box from way back when, someone wrapping an original roll. The wide/far rim is all TIME dependent. Since the dies weren't changed til later in 79, that means any mint wrapped rolls prior to that month would be narrow. The odds are they will be the same narrow width, 10/12 months were, and then it was a mix.
