Some weird guy at a weekend flea market had a bag of lower-grade ancient coins that he was selling for slightly under a dollar each.

Most of the bag was Pantikapaion AEs, which I could hardly care less about, but I did find a few coins that I did want to buy...

This is the first of those. I'm sure I recognize the design from some Roman provincial I've seen, but my memory is nowhere near good enough to say which one it was exactly.

If that helps: 18x17 mm, 2.8 grams.

Not actually that ugly in hand - the flash lighting overemphasized the surface corrosion.

My first choice would be Gordian iii, second is Severus Alexander.
The Reverse shows the 3 standard type from Nicaea.
