This coin is a pretty neat find from a bag of world coins. I was reading that these early Canadian cents have a few different varieties, does anyone happen to know which one this might be? Or it is just a plain 1859 cent?

Thank you!

I moved your post to the variety section for the proper attention.

There are over 100 varieties of the 1859, but I see nothing special with yours. There is some environmental damage, but wear-wise a VF-20+

There are two types of 9's on the 1859 cents.

The wide 9/8 variety had a 9 repunched over an 8 in the reverse dies that produced them.

The narrow 9 variety, which is what your coin is, is the more common type.

There are 248 different known die pairs of the narrow 9 type. They are listed in Dr. Haxby's on line catalog with many photos to help you identify which one it is. Some have interesting repunched numbers or letters.

Here is the link to that catalog. You might enjoy going there and try to figure out which die pair your coin is.
