I have 355 of the new Arizona Quarters with the minor error of the cactus leaf covering the designer's initials. Where do you suggest I try to sell these? What would you pay for them personally? What do you think they will be worth in the future? Thanks for your input in advance.

I saw some guy at a collectibles show this past weekend trying to sell the errors with both the cactus cover-up and the 2nd "0" in 2008 covered up for $20 a piece. I don't know how many he sold, but he had a fair amount of them.

It sounds like a common error. I've got 160 PLUS, out of 15 rolls, with 18 rolls to go. All so far are the designer's initials. I think we'll have to wait and see how many surface, but now I don't think they will be worth much. But anything over a few cents is a gain!

I would buy them for 25 cents each.

With that many found maybe we should say it will be worth more if there is no error.

Just stopped by the coin shop and picked up an Arizona D and P. The P shows a piece of cactus blocking part of the designer's initials whereas the D does not.

I never tried to take coin pictures before so the images are pretty crappy but you can see for yourself: Normal: Error:

wow, those pics actually turned out pretty nice =)
perhaps the 'error' is only on those quarters from the Philly mint and not the Denver?

It's possibly a die defect as the piece that obstructs the initials is slightly offset from actual image (almost looks like a small lip as seen in the bottom picture in the shape of the "cutaway" for the initials). It was hard to get a good picture as I had to shift the coin in the light so that the contrast would show off the initials so as to be decently visible. I probably had to take 30 pictures to get 2 really decent ones. :)

Hey, I found a pic of one on ebay like I was talking about. You can see the zero obscured in the date. Mike

There was an article about it in the June 30th issue of Coin World. Fairly common and caused by die chips. Found only on the Philly mint coins. A short excerpt from the above mentioned issue: Quote: U.S. Mint Director Edmund C. Moy estimates approximately 500 million Arizona quarter dollars will be struck for circulation at the Denver and Philadelphia Mint facilities. Striking that many coins will require thousands of dies." Time will only tell after the complete Arizona run how many coins were truly affected. It's possible that we are seeing quite a few of them now because we are seeing the first runs on the first flawed die(s).
