The only problem I could see with this coin is that if they end up in circulation somehow, wouldn't the braille rub down eventually? Very nice thought here and I'm going to try for one.

If it's a commemorative Silver Dollar.......it won't ever be in circulation.

You won't find that coin in circulation for sure. *but Alabama State Quarter has braille on it 1 more thing about braille the BEP is being sued by the blind they want braille on notes. I don't blame them that should have been done that long ago!  |

I didnt realize that us money doesn't have braille on it. In Canada the money has had braille for years now. Very sad, how do the blind know what they are paying out other than by relying on the kindness and honesty of strangers? (I think we all know how successful that would be at most times) I really hope the US catches up on that very quickly.

let's see a Braille coin for the blind, a commemorative coin that's never going into circulation and carries a premium and is never intended to be handled by the blind whom it would serve the most. A lot of thought really went into this one. Kinda like braille on the keys at a drive up ATM. Ig-no-ray-mooses. Being nice.   |

Shamrock4Sure is absolutely right - what we really need is Braille on bills. There is a portable reader which will scan bill for blind folks, when they can't always trust strangers to be honest, but it's about as convenient as carrying your change around in a Snap-On toolbox.

the most useless thing ever made by mankind!
Who wants to finger up a collectable coin?!?
Would a blind person collect this coin?

I honestly don't see the point. The main purpose of this dollar is as a commemorative that will never be used. As far as a dollar that has braille? It'll happen eventually because in America we must change everything we ever do to accommodate the minority Quote:

the blind people I know are actually offended by this concept. they have a system that works for them now and they feel that those that pushed this through don't really represent them and consider them helpless on their own and in need of outside help for "the simplest things". Most blind poeple are very self sufficient (sometimes to the point of being stubborn) and don't want things that will attract more attention to them.
Just a little insight into the other half.
