Errers and Varietys Bedrock of the Community United States 75241 Posts	Posted 08/02/2018 11:58 pm The profile shows Machine Doubling, since it's reduced in size, and it's shelflike (flat) in appearance. The letters on the edge is a heavy Die Deteriorations (die wear), issue, caused by a worn die. Here's a link to Machine Doubling. http://www.error-ref.com/machine-doubling/ Here's what severe Die Deterioration (worse of the worse) looks like. There was almost 11 billion of these minted, so they used these dies way past normal retirement. This example (my example) has a very mushy and a melted appearance to it. They kind of look like this each year until 1968. In 1969 they created a new master hub. The same issue was noticed on the 1982 large date cents. Not a big thing.
