It's just not fair dang it. Pulled this guy from work. Lucky for me I'm a manager and get to count down 12 drawers each night and handle about $2,000-$10,000 in cash every day...sometimes a LOT more  |

I don't really collect US notes but I do swipe the ones I think have some poential value like stars and odd/low serials

Odds are you're going to have more than two numbers in the serial #. It's uncommon to have only two and very rare to have only one.

I hope my math is right... feel free to correct me!
With 12 reserve banks, for a given series, there are only 108 unary notes (there would be 120 if serial # 00000000 was used, is it?)
For a given series, there are only 136,620 (if my math is right) binary notes.
Given that a series could have up to 100 million notes issued, those numbers seem rather rare!

Then unary and binary notes compose ~0,14% of all the notes. In other words 1 in 700 notes is of interest.
I read that the 00000000 number is not used.

The whole thing strikes me as rather odd. In a series of unique numbers, every number is equally rare. The unary/binary note relies on perception of rarity.
It strikes me as being as audacious as the notion that your lucky numbers are better than 1-2-3-4-5-6 in a lotto drawing. They aren't, of course, but that doesn't stop anyone from thinking that they are.
