It is just now occurring to me that both of these are 1878-S. I've never really thought of this coin as a counterfeit, because it is a whopping 45mm and weighs 27.8 g, so I always considered it to be a novelty coin. However, it does have similarities to the counterfeit half I posted yesterday.

I think this is silver plated as well. What's odd about this is that it does look and sound silver.

The half dollar was much better done. At 45 mm I would think this is one of the old novelty coasters.

Very poor counterfeit that should not fool anyone.

The coin was not made to fool anyone. A genuine example has a 39.1 diameter. With the 45 mm diameter, the coin is a novelty coaster that could be made from silver.

The diameter and poor details give it away easily.
