I brought this post back hoping to see if there are any more die-pair collectors to add. I'm finding it hard to find ones I don't have; terrible photos so you can't identify it, outrageous shipping costs from US, and sellers asking EF+ prices for VG's.

I have managed to find several since this poll started and recently got my 120th, which I thought would move me up to the next group, but ouch, still need 5 more. They might be hiding in the dozen or so that I haven't been able to identify yet.

Here's my latest - PC59-81, which I think is a real good buy at $22.50 Cdn. It has a bit of woodgrain finish, and it seems it's difficult to find one of these with full vines, and leaves that aren't deformed and stretched out to the rim.

This coin has a couple of extras besides the main die crack through the R of GRATIA. When you see it at an angle, there is a very pronounced bulge of the queen's image showing on the reverse. There is also a die crack under the C of CENT that comes out the top of the C (feather shape), just like the one on some 1891 large date cents.

If you are looking for some 1859 die-pairs, I'll be listing about 25 of my extras on ebay, some low grade, some nice, and 2 DP#3's (PC59-742), probably starting next weekend (Sept.20/1/2).

That's a nice one TerryT! That E10 reverse die took a beating from die clashes and wear before it was retired. I think the marks at the C may be clash marks as well. The obverse 8 was the first obverse it was paired with and then it survived another long pairing with obverse 8a.

Sounds like you're making good progress with your collection. They're still out there for the picking if you're patient.

I've been furnishing mine to a friend that sells them on his Facebook coin site. They sell very very well, even the common ones. And there are NO 1859's that have a full vine.

It's good to see a few more responses to the poll added. I know some collectors wonder why anyone would want 253 coins of the same date in their collection. (The poll only went to 248, but 5 more die pairs have been discovered since the poll began.) I admit I used to wonder that myself until I began to study the differences in the coins and was fascinated by all the things that can affect dies (and the coins they strike) during the minting process. I would encourage collectors to get about half a dozen VF or better 1859's and attribute them with the Haxby catalog. You never know, you might find a new one that's not listed yet. I expect there are still at least 15 or 20 more scarce die pairs out there somewhere waiting to be found. Happy hunting!!

1960NYGiants will be over 200 and change by the end of the month. And Viper may have a couple more to add as well some time coming up.
