There are no listed DDOs for the 1937-D Buffalo nickel. This coin has pretty sharp doubling that is readily visible to the unaided eye. My instincts tell me this should turn out to be MD, but some of what I am seeing doesn't look like MD.

The doubling on the feathers and back of the neck is rather sharp. That and the doubling on the date and braid do not look to diminish the size of the numerals or the devices. On the other hand, the doubling on LIBERTY (especially the "E") looks more like MD. I know it's possible to have both die doubling and MD on the same coin, but I think this will be all-or-nothing from what I am seeing.

I'd welcome and appreciate feedback. Thanks!

Here are the eye, lips, and chin (with evident abrasions to abrade the common die clash marks):

Here is a reverse closeup to show the mm position, in case somebody has a comparison coin:

Thanks, Coinfrog! I appreciate you taking a look at it. Back to the "roll and sell" box it goes.

It is definitely a DDO. I own this in PCGS MS65 as well as a 1934 D DDO in PCI (early green label) MS65, and the finest known 1915 DDO. The doubling is all indistinguishable between them. There is no question it's an unlisted DDO.

I think this is clearly Machine Doubling. Not a doubled die.

Looks more like MD than DD. I thought there was a notch under the E of LIBERTY, but looking further its more like it took a hit.

I agree with all MD.

This is Machine Doubling. A lot of the Buffalo nickel doubled dies are just extra thickness or doubling on the eye.
