The above coin came out of an old Raymond Wayte album and is beautifully toned with oranges, greens, magentas, and yellows. These Jeffersons were given to me by my grandfather and have been in this holder for a very long time so I know the toning is genuine. Like I said it is very beautiful so it came to me as no surprise when PCGS body bagged it for "questionable color". I then sent it to ANACS and it came back slabbed but "artificial toning". Should I just concede or try again.

My favorite Smilie. I normally post that. It's weird to see it on one of my posts! You got it jbuck. I believe this coin is at home and not locked up at the bank (after the Indymac thing, I wonder sometimes). I will try to get pic up tonight.

Sweet!

Funny thing, is at first I started to reply with "Your picture did not show? "
But then I realized that when you said "The above coin" you meant the one in the subject, not one you had pictured!

Thanks. The pics don't do the coin justice. They are much more vibrant in person. I am still grasping the concept of photographing toned coins.

That is a very nice coin. Really like the toning.

I can only imagine what it looks like in person giving how lovely it looks in the photos.

Congrats on having such a nice coin.

All of the TPG's are stingy with grading toned coins. The Wayte-Raymond albums are known for creating this type of toning. For the time being, I wouldn't bother to resubmit it. Wait for a time when the TPG's are more willing to grade them.

There was a brouhaha a short while ago about a toned Morgan that was slabbed by PCGS and then turned out to be artificially toned. After this embarrassment, all of the TPG's are overly cautious. Fortunately, memories tend to be short, so just give it some time.

Wow!

That looks incredible! I can only imagine how much more vibrant it could be in person. Shame on them for giving a details grade. I agree with Mom, wait a while before trying again.

That is a beautiful nickel. I have a few in a Dansco that have toning and I was considering certification until reading your post. Maybe I will hold off a little longer.

Thanks everyone. I really like this coin. At least it's been protected in the slab. I know what it is. I don't need the TPG's to tell me. Thanks Mom. I will definitely do that.
