Die deterioration. Happens a lot on the lower profile cents. (Single squeeze die process)

On the dae you can see on the right side, on LIBERTY you can see it on the left side. and on the motto you can see it on the tops of the devices. It is a die event that happens as the die ages.

Die deterioration and/or plating defects. Not a doubled die.
