I bought this off a vendor dealer at a Flea Market in Fla, I noted
that the date was visible which is desirable, and that just over 50%
offset. Any comments appreciated, what would you pay for something
like this error dime.

Thanks John1, I overpaid a bit but don't mind tipping the
flea market vendor when motivated by the offset.

Thanks Errers and Varietys, feel good hearing that.

Looks legit. The upset lines are on the planchet/coin are visible. A sign that it was done at the mint, not a fake.

I added that information about the proto rim to help all to know what could be seen to confirm a true error.

Excellent explanation Coop with photo, I can see
the Proto rim on my example which you have defind as a marker. I'm going to add Proto rim to the title for SEO.

That's a really nice example, it was struck in the perfect position to feature the date. I think the estimate of $25 is pretty solid, you might get a bit more if someone needs it for a date set.

More food for thought. Off-center on blanks that missed the upset process, (missing proto rims) are possible as well. Thanks, Doug.

http://www.error-ref.com/coin-struc...ype-i-blank/

Quote:
Definition: This error type occurs when a blank does not pass through the upset mill and it is struck as a coin. Because it is not rolled and squeezed to a smaller diameter, no proto-rim is generated along the outer margin of the blank. The edge is also not smoothed out, and instead retains a rough, cut-and-tear texture.
Second opinions are always recommended. Rookies thoughts!
Two sides to every coin. The edge makes three.
Side Note: Sometimes I feel like a nut, sometimes I don't.
