Well, of the three nickel dollar coins I posted tonight, at least I have one I know what it is...

I picked this one up earlier this year. I have seen lots of cracked planchets from 1 to 25c, and even saw a twoonie with a cracked ring, but this is the first nickel dollar struck on a cracked planchet I have ever seen. I love it...

Nice cracked planchet, looks like a slight Blakesley effect.
Thanks for sharing.

Not so much 'cracked planchet', as 'split planchet'.
Much more commonly seen in Roman silver coins.

In this case, the cause may be different.
My guess is that with the OP's coin, it may have been caused by an inclusion, or an accidental cut in the blank, before being converted into a planchet.
My reason for guessing this as a cause, is because the split is curved.

I have seen this sort of error in a modern coin, only once before.
