Rolling Stock Or Strip Error?

SPP, I have two nickel dollars that exhibit similar incused lines on one side only, although to a much lesser degree. You made me take a closer look. The first one I had brushed off as interesting PMD at the time, but now I have the same question. These are on two different coins, the first is on a 1975 and the second a 1974.




I can't get good enough close up pictures right now, I'll edit this post tomorrow when I do.

Seems rather extreme to be rolling marks.

I have an 1817 Mexican War of Independence Re-strike coin with this same effect. Looks like on my example a lamination band but the interior of the band has these raised lines under a stereo microscope review at 40X. Could be a die defect which then this area was then polished creating this effect? In your case these is no discrete bands? but just raised lines from an improper polished die? Remembering an incuse area of the die will CREATE a raised line on the coin. I know Mike Diamond had no identifying mint error definition for this on his Yahoo Channel ... I have been following this outcome.

When going through the "what ifs", I thought that either the belt or the roller stopped ... one moving and one not as the strip went though, scratching one surface as it moved along. Every planchet cut from that strip or strips would have one side scratched or damaged. I'm just guessing/pondering.
