A friend of mine recently received this small coin as a present from his parents coming back from a trip to Jerusalem. Allegedly, a coin from Judaea from the times of Jesus Christ bought from a local dealer:
I offered him to clean it a bit... at least to try to reveal some or any details. This is the best I got:
It looks authentic to me, but what do you think of it? Any help in identifying this coin, authenticity, value or any other information is much appreciated! Diameter is roughly 16 mm. and weights around 1.7 g.
Your friend's coin is similar to this one, a Judaean prutah in the name of Caesar (Greek 'KAICAPOC', i.e. the emperor Augustus) struck by the prefect Marcus Ambibulus during the lifetime of Jesus. The letters on the reverse either side of the palm tree are the date. Due to condition, the value is mostly as a thoughtful gift and a souvenir of the Holy Land.
