Hello everyone, I have a really old coin dated 1771 on one side and United states of america on the back. It is sorta black in color like the black colored magnets. Any ideas what this might be?

Well considering there is no US coin, or colonial that I can think of that has a date of 1771 you either have the date wrong, the country wrong, or it isn't a coin. Pictures, or a better description are definitely needed.

I didn't think "United States of America" existed back on 1771.

I agree, there were no coins with "United States of America" struck on them in 1771.

The first reference of "United States" (or States United) on a coin was on the reverse of the 1787 Fugio cent. The Continental Dollar of 1776 had "American Congress" on the reverse.

Jbuck, did they make it for the 200 pre-anniversary of minting of the 1971 Ike?

Nitabean, welcome to the forum! As mentioned earlier, pictures will help a lot; however the description sounds like a Chinese "fantasy piece" and not a real coin. They can make these pieces appear very old, too. One example that comes to mind is a coin that looks just like a normal Washington quarter, but has the denomination "one dollar" on the back and the date 1864. As mentioned, in 1771 there was no United States of America. We were a British colony. If you have the date and inscription correct, it cannot be a real coin. However, you may have a great conversation piece!
