Greetings Misty and welcome to the forum. Personally, I'd weight that coin and compare it to the weight of another ASE. I want to say lamination error but that underlying metal looks fishy. Ben

to the forum, Misty! I have no idea what is going on here, it almost looks like it is being "unwrapped" or something.

I agree with Bonedigger weigh that coin, and the others. They're supposed to be pure silver, 99.93% to be more precise, and the weight should be 1 troy ounce or 31.103 grams that only leaves 0.07% for the copper and it should be a make-up of the alloy and not a core as with clad coins. It definitely looks like a peel of the surface, a larger image might be of help! Paul

It almost looks like silver clad. The middle doesn't look silver. Where did you get it theres definitely something fishy there.

I have hundreds of ASEs. Some toned, some a little scratched up and some just exposed and ugly but none look like that picture. I'd be really suspicious because it looks like a plating gone bad.

Yeah that looks very suspect. What is the "bubble" in the field above In God We Trust?

Sorry, but you did not enlarge anything- the pics are just small crops. They need to be much larger to be able to tell what is going on there.

I will try to take better pictures, the area in question is coming out darker than appears to be, probably from the scanner. The weight and "silver sound" all appear to be geniune. I have hundered of silver eagles, and I do not suspect this to be other than geniune. I will try to submit it as a mint error to be graded.
Thanks for the input
