After doing some research on PCGSCoinfacts I realized something startling. PCGS has graded 18 in MSRD for the 88' P FS-901. Out of the 4 with TrueView Imaging only 1 is correctly attributed. Going through the GreatCollections archive they had sold one of the two 1988 RDV-006's in MS63RD and it was correctly attributed. They had also sold one of the four in MS64RD also correctly attributed. They also sold two of the six in MS65RD one correctly and one incorrectly attributed. Because the rate of correct attribution is about 50% I want to build a more accurate population census. So, if you have a 1988 or 1988-D FS-901 LMC I would appreciate if you could post a pic of it and if it is correctly attributed or not. I'm looking to survey only in MSRD condition from PCGS, NGC, or ANACS. Thanks for your time.

Wow.
Those are pretty startling statistics.
75% of the Truview imaged 88' P FS-901 are incorrectly attributed?

Yep. None of the TrueView'd 88-D's are accurate either. No GC sales of an 88-D to compare to. So out of the 88-D LMC's on eBay + GC they have a 0% attribution rate. Premium quality guys and gals.

Edit: HA has no sales of this variaty from any grading service from either mint.

There are that I know of 2 high grade PCGS certified examples in MS66 RD and MS67 RD, problem with them is neither one is the RDV-006 variety. Both are misattributed and Ian at GC immediately pulled them when I pointed this out

This would indicate that there are none correctly attributed in 67 and at least 2 of the 66 graded examples are incorrect too. Meaning the pop for 66 would be at the minimum halved.

@John1,

They state they are FS-901 which is the RDV-006 but they are RDV-005

Wow! I have found three 88 D''s although none has been sent off. I kept the best of the three and the other two went to other collectors.

All there red examples are the RDV-005 examples graded as FS-901. One of the graded normal red coins is a FS-901, that is graded as a normal coin. They been wrong before, but not as often as this. When buying a graded coin, buy the coin, not the plastic. Because they make mistakes. Don't assume it is correct because it is graded. See what is really is first, before buying the coin.

I am sitting on the porch of the Neola Market in the sprawling metropolis of Neola West Virginia. Only place with WiFi anywhere near where I am camping in the woods. Thus I can not add any photos here but I think my 1988 is MS RED unslabbed but my 1988-D (a gift from Jim!) is stained and although in nice shape I don't think it would grade RED. It will be a couple weeks before I am home again but will try to remember this thread and add mine to it as this is a pretty interesting topic.

A huge thanks to all contributors so far! So far what ylu guys have said and posted keeps with the trend line. Scarce in circulated grades, rare in UNC. Some really amazing examples ya'll have.

11997755 MS64RD is my guess a nice pop coin for sure.

I'm going to build a spreadsheet in google sheets later and make a manual pop report. This is kinda fun.
