Details grade due to the damage on the obverse, you still did good though. My guess is it would worth around $40 USD.

I think it's acceptable for lower grade (Under VF30) circulated coinage. Small gouges, dings, and minor damage that may detail an AU/MS coin is expected on something that was well circulated.

Quote: Small gouges, dings, and minor damage that may detail an AU/MS coin is expected on something that was well circulated. So why wouldn't the TPG's just net grade an MS coin down to a circ level to account for problems like this? Or, does a "details" designation give a coin an equivalent market value to a given circ grade?

It depends joecoin. A MS coin is expected to be free of gouges and damage. It wouldn't net to AU if it has no lack of detail or luster. It would have the details of an MS coin

Quote: A MS coin is expected to be free of gouges and damage. I've seen some really baggy MS 61 Morgans. Baggy enough that I would call it damage. I'd much rather have a nice AU than those types of dogs.

on that. What seperates them is if there is rub vs bag marks. I'd rather have a mark free AU-58 then a baggy 62.
