Ok thanks for the clarification. The harp is slightly worn from circulation, right? Assuming so, that makes it difficult to know whether the area around the date was struck through grease or is just random damage. My best guess is the latter, but I look forward to seeing what others think.

Thank you aristarchus123 and apence. The coin has had very low circulation, strange to think wear happened to one side in a specific location and without affecting both sides. Would this be related to the fin on the rim I wonder
This coin has seen very little circulation, looking at the unmarked fields. In fact, most 2000 Irish £1 coins were only in circulation for a year or so before they were replaced by the Euro. Looks like a greasy die to me!
