I am certain that it actually is post mint damage.

However there have been 3 or 4 recently posted coins with a very similar type of damage.

I am curious as the what caused it.

@LL2015, first welcome to CCF. Second, yes that round area on Jefferson's forehead is damage.

It looks like damage. If you look on the other side it maybe pushed out opposite that area. Just a spender.
