Bought for $40. It's My first Morgan. Hoping it's a good buy and not cleaned. Thanks! "Coin collectors aren't afraid of change." -Unknown Best Cherrypicks- 1909 VDB DDO FS-1101-http://goccf.com/t/357327 1967 WQ SMS DDO FS-101-http://goccf.com/t/351558

Looks like a nice example of a date with many high grade coins around. Perhaps you could take pics of the raw coin that show more detail?

It certainly looks as though it could be PL.

Agree. Pics don't show surface detail well enough to grade.

Sorry about the pics! My coin also has as light purple-like tone, and it's not as pronounced as it is in the pictures. Thanks for checking out my coin. Here are some hopefully better pics. I find it extremely difficult to get pics of larger coins like this.

your new photos are overexposed. the light is obstructing the view of the surfaces and therefore I cant determine surface originality. try natural lighting and watch the glare. no flash. the coin can be anywhere between AU58 and MS64 and may or may not have been cleaned so that's a pretty wide range

Still can't get a good feel for the surfaces - maybe others will disagree.

Sorry I can't get the pics right. I just can't seem to capture the details. Thanks for trying Coinfrog.

using you latest photos I'm torn on whether this coin is a slider or true MS. the luster on the surfaces of both sides appears to be broken. the lower half of wings look flat and dull. this is a common date coin that is known for sharp strong strikes. this coin is below average for the year. the eye appeal I put at 5/10 due to the toning. either the coin was cleaned at some point or possibly incorrectly stored. I'm leaning towards AU58 even though the surfaces are fairly clean of any hairlines or minor scratches with the exception of right under the eye

Ok. Thanks for your input panzaldi. I do hope it isn't cleaned or artificially toned. I'm pretty sure the dullness of the wing and the missing luster is a problem with my pictures and the angle I took them at. I can't capture the surfaces without slanting my pictures. The mirror like fields are hard to work with for me. In hand, the strike seems full and sharp and my coin still has the cartwheel luster I see a lot of on the internet. Thanks for the help! I greatly appreciate it.

Nice coin, and I think you did well at that purchase price. On the obverse, there is a very slight touch of wear on the cap fold, second cotton blossom, hair above the ear, and big bear claw. On the reverse, there is a very slight touch of wear on the eagle's head, right wing tip (our visual left), right talons and leg, and breast. This coin is a slider, a solid AU-58 that is tantalizingly close to MS-60. There is frost on the obverse and reverse devices, but not enough for PL designation. There are a few small bag marks, one west of the lips and a few on the reverse west and east of the lower wing feathers. There are a few SW-NE scuff marks on the cheek. The toning and cheek scuffs match what I have seen over the years from DANSCO album coins. I don't see evidence of any recent cleaning. It is possible that this coin was stored long ago in a paper 2x2 flip, which could explain some of the purple color. Back in my day, when dinosaurs roamed, some people used cotton or gauze pads to keep the paper from contacting the coin. That could explain the rectangular untoned patch on the reverse. Old school grading: AU+ slider, semi-prooflike. I can get you started on VAM attribution, but the photos are not clear enough to chase the more detailed markers. Your coin has the B2 reverse (short nock), with a broken fourth star and an unbroken "r" in TRUST. Again, at $40, you did well on this coin. With the toning and SPL surfaces, I can see what attracted you to it.

Thanks for the great reply! Glad I did well. I also attributed it a while ago as VAM 33 on VAM world. I have a post about it in the VAM forum. Thanks for all the help!
