Trying to grade this, and totally new to morgans.
My best guest is VM1. The O is upright and clear, can't see any S, don't see anything doubled (but, I can barely see the doubles in the examples!) 2 is open and clean. Help me see how to do this please.

Thanks! You never know what something this old has been through. I do know its been sitting wrapped in a now disintegrating piece of cloth for more than 50 years -- it was part of my dad's stuff and the old ones came from his parents, he never bought, just kept stuff from change or found or inherited. I don't know if the cloth affected its toning or not. I gave it a 10 min acetone bath to get that stuff off, but everything I have read says that is ok.. did I mess up?

The chest feather detail is very worn but still there, its washed out by the light in the pic a bit.

I was actually asking about how to pick the sub-variation more than the quality.
But I appreciate the grading; you set it higher than I would have, but I am very conservative. I was thinking extra fine or lower AU.

1882-O can be a tough nut to crack if it's not one of the obvious VAMs. If you have a plain upright and centered mint mark and open 2 with no obvious date doubling you may have hit the nail on the head, VAM-1.

I too have several '82-Os that I came to the same dead end with....I call them VAM nothing...It is a series ripe for a die study to be completed.

And please give that Morgan an acetone dip. If you are unfamiliar, search the subject here on CCF.
