I worked on this coin a little: I first soaked it hot distilled water with a drop of Dawn dishwashing soap, rinsed with more water and patted dry. Then I applied Verdi-Care
and used a toothpick to dislodge the larger deposits. Finally, I rinsed with more distilled water and air-dried.
I think the coin looks better and traces of peripheral luster are present. Color on these latest photos matches the actual coin pretty well. Faint vertical hairlines are now visible on the obverse, confirming that this coin was cleaned at some point.
I don't think I did too badly for $60, even though the coin isn't as original as I had hoped.
