Found this 1980 D with something like a CUD on reverse at the U in UNITED, Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance

So far it is just a die crack. A die cud would be when the outside edge of the die breaks off the die.

Note how the cud rises as high as the rim or sometimes even higher. All depending on how much of a void is left on the die and how much metal is available to fill the void on the coin.

Are die crack worth saving, seems like I find quite a few of them

Collect what you like, maybe like one from each year and mm. Hold onto it (in a tube) until a larger one comes your way. Myself I would throw it back...good luck on future finds

this is a die crack keep looking. I try to keep major die cracks like rim to rim bisecting cracks or spike heads that are good to keep
