Something is off on this one. Details are very mushy, looks almost cast. This is either a counterfeit or Whizzed at one time because of all the little pits every where one the coin. Not one I would buy.

P.S., I'm leaning more towards counterfeit now that I look at those rims.

There's a scratch to the left on United that looks bad. Cleaned for the unnatural color. Corrosion removed for the rough surfaces and evidence of old corrosion.

I don't like the seem that runs around the edge on both sides. I've seen this on Chinese counterfeits.

This is the Shallow N reverse. Should be Bold N (last use of the Shallow N was in 1877). Counterfeit.

It does look like the coin has the shallow N which was only used in 1864-1870 and 1877. Will try to do some sleuthing.

First thing to catch my eye was the spacing between the denticles. Just made it look off to me right away...

To be frank, I do not like the look of that coin.
Many features look poorly defined, and the surfaces pebbly and rough. The numerals in the date also do not look correct.

These are photos of a known counterfeit. Look at the "N's" on the reverse.

Nice one - The Shallow N is the tell. It's a counterfeit, period.

This post supports my premise that I should only be buying slabbed coins until I learn more about grading raw coins. Always concerned about counterfeit and altered or cleaned coins. This forum is really helpful
