Greetings all. Been away for a while, got out of coins for the most part but it's like an addiction, just need to go back to it. So getting back in, I have purchased a few Morgans. One of which is posted below. Never was a fan of slabs, but this one may be worth it. What grade would you put on this? Sorry, just got my new lens late last night and did not take any pictures of the reverse yet, but there is nothing wrong with it by any means. So, what do you think? Send it in or hang on? And the pictures may not be the best, yet. I was running on empty when I opened my lens and didn't have much of a chance to play too much with it. But this is one of the more attractive Morgans I have ever owned. Added pics: Edited by jdheyne 10/11/2008 5:55 pm

Sorry, guess I should have said something about it. It is an 86 plain. I'd settle for any mint mark on the back, but just is not there. ha. I will get reverse pics up tonight hopefully.

And it was great seeing that 88-O Morgan dollar again in your gallery! That piece definately had me fooled. I have yet to see one quite like it.

Hi JDHeyne, That's a beautiful coin and I'd guesstimate it should make an MS-65 grade pretty easily and I wouldn't be surprised if it makes MS-66. It's a common date in MS-65 but if it pulls a '66 I'd say your grading fee would be a worthwhile investment. An MS-66 should easily sell in the $200-300 range.
One caveat: the first photo shows two scuff marks at the bottom of Liberty's neck, but the don't show on the second photo. If those marks are actually as visible as they appear in photo #1, they might limit the grade to MS-65 at best.
I vote for PCGS if you choose to send it in.

I am having troubles signing in, as soon as I do, it is as if it signs me out right away. So I cannot upload the picture yet.
But those marks at the bottom... definately magnified by the photo, but they are there.
I will keep trying to get reverse/better pics up here.

I see a pretty big rim knock on the reverse at 2 o clock... That might push it down? I don't know not expert in grading :)

Sure looks like a solid ms65 at any of the grading services.
