Those are...horrible. One of the only good features of these "dollars" was the placement of the dates of power of the president, IMO. Now they are just pushed to the side, too bad.

Poor placement. I was expecting it to be off to one side like on the Quarter. I would have preferred it to remain on the edge, but the whiners won.

Blech! I am not a big fan of how they placed it.

It should have been on the reverse

I agree, but since none of the current issues (cent, nickel, dime, quarter, half dollar) have it on the reverse, the whiners would have complained that "God was relegated to the back of the bus!" I find this amusing, since God has no problem being on the back of our Federal Reserve Notes!

Quote: A public outcry occurred when the U.S. Mint inadvertently issued a small subset of 2007 dollars that did not have the inscription because of minting errors. Actually the "outcry" began before the coins were even issued. It started when images of the coming new coins were published in 2006 and some ignorant people didn't see the motto on the front or back of the coin and, not bothering to listen to the description of the coin or read the press release that said the motto was going to be on the edge of the coin, they started the rumors an spam emails calling for a boycott of the coins because "they took god off our coins". The complaints had nothing to do with the edge errors.

Let's start another public outcry! The new placement of 'In God We Trust' just does not look right! The Mint's proposal throws off the symmetry of the coin's lettering. I prefer 3 o'clock, 9 o'clock or somewhere on the reverse.

I think the placement maintains the symmetry very nicely. Of course they still look like some kind of game token.

Zachary Taylor's coin actually looks a little creepy, it's like big brother is watching with that dead stare of his. That straight forward, instead of a profile effigy just does not work.

Well since they have changed the design now for the rest of the dollars I would thing this will make the fist two years of issue more valuable what do you think?

Well the first two years aren't worth anything right now because there are so many of them. Once they change in 2009, there will be just as many of the first two years coins then as there are now so I see no reason why they should increase in value. When the SBA came out it didn't increase the value of the Ikes, when the Sac came out it didn't increase the value of the SBA, and the President dollar didn't increase the value of the Sac. Why should the 2009 with IGWT on the front increase the value of the Washington thru Van Buren coins. If anything since the number of president dollars struck keeps decreasing the later ones may wind up eventually being the better pieces to have.
