Just bought this one last night. It was a bit pricy at nearly $480 but is a massive upgrade over the ugly, baggy, watermarked MS-64 I had. Thoughts? I really dig the toning on this one.

Thanks! I've been trying to upgrade my lower quality stuff before adding some new stuff to keep the quality consistent. Big things may or may not be coming...

This one isn't for everyone. I have particular tastes for toning, and I liked the russet colors to this one. To each their own.

I have tried, but cannot see toning as anything more than tarnish on a coin. Some of the amazing colors that come from just cannot make up, to my eye, the mottled and dark appearance it can give. I also realize my opinion is just that...my opinion.

This coin makes YOU happy and that's what a hobby is all about. So a hearty congratulations on a great new addition

Thanks Earle. Sometimes I would agree with you, but on something like my Morgan I just bought I couldn't agree less.

A valuable coin, because it is so rare in this grade, and attracts attention when the grade has been confirmed by PCGS.

Would it have been more valuable still, with extra eye appeal (for some), if
it had been a strong white color, more close to, as if it had just emerged from the coining press?

Good question. A large number of Franklin collectors prefer their high grade or strike rarities blast white, as to see tje bell lines or such easier. However lower and more available grades (64-66) command large premiums with attractive color as the coin is otherwise affordable.

Personally, I sought a registry quality example for the set, and as I am seeking to do it with as much color as possible decided on this example. The number of 67 with POSITIVE color meaning not black or grey toning, or watermarks are few and far between. I honestly expected to pay a bit more and was plesently suprised to win at the minimum bid.

I don't do much silver but this is an excellent grade and the color is nice as well. Congrats.
