seems more likely that there was something between the die and the planchet when the coin was struck

AU details. Why would there be a die clash on the devices? Hard to tell if it's incuse or raised on the neck, but it also looks like there are some depressions on the reverse. Defective planchet?

Interesting coin. I'd say MS-62 with the new pics. I suppose struck through is a possibility, but it doesn't seem to affect the devices on the reverse, so I still think they might be planchet defects. But just a guess.

Looks much better in these pics. Defective planchet sounds plausible. Never seen anything like it.

MS-63, must of had crud on the die surfaces of both sides.
