Please help me identify the type of error this is. The metal piece at the top of the column appears to be independent of the column, not just a gouge.

A die gouge is on the fields and is raised like a scratch, but stronger. This is a die chip. How to tell the difference? On a die chip they look granular on the top of the chip. That is from the die part that broke away from the die. When this happens it creates a void on the die, the void fills during the strike, and that is what the void looks like on the die.

Yes a little die chip. We sometimes call this a "hornet's nest" due to their location under the eaves.
