Recently I was given the opportunity to contact Barry Borsellino. For years I had heard that Barry was working on a Newfoundland Coin Varieties book and when I finally found a way to reach him, he did not disappoint.
What a nice guy! Not only did Barry give me access to his unpublished works, but since he said that the book will never really be published, he has given me express permission to pass this book on to anyone in the hobby that wants a copy. Even on this forum! If a mod wants to intervene here and post Barry's works on the forum, that would be a good option to get this work out to the community and part of the normal hunting list of NL coinage.
Right now there is the book, which outlines many new and cool varieties of Newfoundland coinage, an adendum with updates to the book and population reports on 1 cent to 50 cent Newfoundland coins. These works comprise well over 500 pages!
Barry has done an incredible amount of work and his findings are astounding. His work will provide NL collectors with untold hours of new enjoyment while pouring through their own collections and revitalizing 'the chase' for varieties. Although many are subtle, the variances identified by Barry should become the norm for NL coin variety hunting. I can't thank him enough for sharing this valuable resource.
Mods - please contact me to advise if Mr. Borsellino's compilations can be posted on the site for download to members.
Otherwise, if that is not an option give it a couple days and PM me for copies of Barry's works.

Barry is awesome - very generous with advice and there's no doubt that his research is above and beyond anything in the field - at least anything published in the field (there may be other little-known geniuses out there). Anyway, I second this - I've had a copy of his book for some time now and it's really influenced my thinking about this subject.

I flagged this thread for Bobby's attention. The main factor that could limit this could be the actual size of the file(s). I do have this book - I actually bought it when Barry sold CD Roms on ebay. It is more of a "Jack Griffin" style text, than a proper die study. But still... it is a handy reference sometimes.

It's a gigantic PDF. Worth it for the photos which are copious, very detailed and in almost all cases include gauge lines so that you can see the variations he's trying to demonstrate. It's kind of remarkable.

It would be interesting to have a conversation about the Borselino opus. There's a huge number of variants in there and Barry himself acknowledges that while some are likely of potential value, others are pretty marginal. My personal take is that his greatest find is the 1945 narrow date 5 cent....it's visible to the naked eye and very difficult to find. I found it in a lot of ~100 5 cent that I bought some months ago but have never seen another one among the many NFLD 5 cent that appear on ebay and elsewhere. To my knowledge, none of the TPG have taken note. Curious to know which of the other mutants in his menagerie are of interest to people/

Hello all. New on this forum. I was googling for a book on Nfld coins varieties and I ended up in your discussions... Been collecting high grade Nfld coins for 2 years now ; found myself many varieties especially of course, in the Victoria series and it's so weird that so little attention has been put on the subject, compared to other Canadian coins. Happy to learn that someone has written about the subject. A much needed reference. I would like , if it is possible, to get a copy of this work. Please help me with that.Claude :)

Hello! Long time lurker here and finally decided to join to chime in on this topic. I started collecting Newfies last year and have been looking for a reference on the subject (at least more than what's in the Charlton). I heard about Barry's work but quickly discovered that all information was about five years old. So glad to have found this thread and look forward to the work being made available.
Thanks all!
