This quarter looks like it is made out of copper. I don't know how it would be possible though. I don't have an accurate scale to weigh it.

It is possible, you would have to weigh it to confirm, but I don't think that one is.

Believe the pros before me ALWAYS - but I think it looks copper plated. Put "copper plate quarter" into your favorite search engine and search videos. It's a fairly easy experiment a lot of people do. I can't tell from the pics but look closely at edges and see if you can tell if/where an alligator clip was attached.

Edit: Many quarters found in the ground metal detecting get a tone like this as well.

Unless drastically underweight it is certainly environmental damage.

I'm seeing some "silver" coloring on the reverse rim, IMO that coin has been in the ground for some time and spent after that... PMD
