When you look at these RPMs, what do you notice about each one? Do you see the different types of RPMs. The ones to the east show inside/outside of the devices. The split serif examples show on the the two /one serif on these. But what is common for each? They all show a spread. What is a spread? It is an enlargement from the main mintmark in a direction. This spread shows direction/enlargement of the mintmark. But they show a spread in a direction, thus they are called north/south/east/west. With out a spread direction they are just a normal mintmark. Here is a strange example:

There were three different mintmark types that year.

So because the mintmark is larger, does not mean it is a RPM. Where is the spread direction? With out a direction this is not a RPM. Think direction when you feel you found a RPM:

In what direction are you seeing a spread on this mintmark you posted? The south edge looks a bit thicker, but no spread/separation is visible. Here is a great example of a spread south:

Do you see the spread lines? It is a North/South/South. Can you see the central mintmark? Can you see the north on the lower loop of the horizontal. We need to see spread between the punching in order to be a RPM. Hope this helps, but another question is always accepted.

Thank you for that Coop, loads of info for me to read over.

If it isn't an RPM, then what is it that causes said thickness?

Here is some other photos:

Could be a broken MM punch. This was prevalent on the 1979-D cents.

This is a not the damaged punch issue which did appear on the tail of the SW serif. Think about how mintmarks are added to the die:

The punch is hammered into the tempered die. So this is not done just once. But several times. (I seen many punch marks on some die that are RPMs:

(Probably a Monday morning punch? LOL)
But if the punch is close and slightly off, the shape of the mintmark can be distorted, but still not show a spread. That is the case with your coin. The punch process moved the mintmark a little out of normal, but not enough to show a spread to be a RPM.

Note the upper serif? That is spread. So It appears to be a north. I didn't see a match on coppercoins though.

Ah...I see, that does make sense when I compare the OP coin with this one.

So unlisted RPM then?

Well...I just checked and for some reason there are no RPM listings for any Wheat cent above the date of 1950.

Thank you, was looking in the wrong place.

There is only one RPM for 1952 D listed there, and it isn't a match.

John has a very large set of files that he doesn't add to the internet yet. If the year is complete, it will say final on that year/mint.
