My name is Tanya, the majority of humans know me as, and prefer to call me Tiny. I am super convinced it is only because I really am tiny... and they find it amusing... now that you have one more senseless water cooler joke to tell.. I have only started actually hoarding all pocket change I can get my hands on... about a year and a half.. when I discovered a pretty 1945 nickel randomly while I was bored and just passing time looking at my change.... I was excited.. thinking as all newbies probably do... that the date on a coin that far back MUST be awesome.. alas I was quickly taught the lesson that old are sometimes as rare as a soccer mom owning a mini van... unless it had errors.. I have several silver quarters that I obtained over the years and already knew mine were not a special breed; however I think they are very cool, so as far as actually collecting any specific types of coins, mine are basically silver quarters.. cause you have to admit... when the cashier is clueless and in need of an Engvall sign.. and they drop those coins into our eager palms... that rare moment, you hear that beautiful tink of that silver coin ring out... you get all tingly and warm inside..why... because you just know... and your day gets happy and you get that evil grin cause its all yours now... you know you all do too...sorry, anyway, so only two other types of coinages get special executive treatment and a soft cozy home in my padded jewelry box.. and they are wheats and for some oddball reason.. foreign buggers, mostly Canadians though. Everything else is just hoarded in many containers... like poor little minnows in a fish bucket... until I decide to sort them and repeatedly google every tiny oddity I can spot... unfortunately.... I am not a pro by any means.. and generally always find something that never matches anyone else's oddities.. and then it gets sorted to the maybe container where it will stay until I get the kahunas to actually post a picture and question... ugh the dreaded post of newbie status.. I've read most of the posts in this community... and I gotta say... if someone asks the obvious to hard core collectors... its like tossing the newbie into a lions cage covered in gravy... so now that I have taken to much of everyone s time...(I do apologize now for this long thing and any others I post..i have a very long winded problem.. but I promise to be as colorful as I can with posts, to at least humor those of you that are kind enough to stick it out.. I do very actively collect random rocks and stones incase anyone knows a great rock forum too; I have so many of those my husband swears that I will one day collect enough to sink him into a slimy water source for the loose change I would collect from his demise.. lol kidding.. but not really.. he sleeps with one eye open sometimes.. anyway, I want to thank the pros for your nice emails, and for allowing me to join the family.. please be kind when my lack of knowledge shines through. #128563; this ia me!

Why don't you organize your quarters and wheat cents and put them in albums. Try and post some pictures. We would love to see them. I have some pet rocks also!

Welcome to the forum and thanks for a very interesting introduction. Most people enjoy a good read, even if they don't embellish their replies with adjectives, punctuation, and emojis. I tend to go overboard with replies but felt the need to help other newbies like myself when I got back into collecting. Most of us like keeping our replies short and sweet, which is fine, but I remember trying to make sense of some of the short, concise replies. When experience is in short supply, confusion, self-doubt, and getting feathers ruffled can abound. (In my case, being older and set in my ways, it wasn't easy figuring out polite online etiquette.) BTW, just remember to have a tough skin and use a ghost pepper hot sauce instead of gravy and you'll do fine at keeping the "obvious hardcore collectors" at bay. They do like helping folks learn, everyone just needs to be receptive.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups. We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

Welcome to the CC, my advice.... jump in, the water is fine. Thoughts of trepidation is probably a concern by beginners, but if we don't ask, we can't learn. I'm not a pro either but my personal experience on CC has been favorable as most everyone is helpful, patient & understands we all have to start from the beginning. Post some pics, we'd love to see em.
