there was a post that I think got moved to the general discussion area, the one that started with "a penny for your thoughts", change becoming difficult (I'm paraphrasing) to obtain. I can't remember if I replied to it, but I went back to find it and it had been moved.

anyway, that same night I rolled out at my usual time to go feed my several street kitties & hunt for lost money. while I was at the circle k convenience store getting my nightly coffee I noticed they had posted a sign stating they had run out of change (coins). I inquired. I was told they can't get their usual huge batches of rolled coins from their bank; that's when I recalled the post about "penny for your thoughts...". the guy who works nights on the weekends is a buddy, so he filled me in. after I paid for my coffee I told him i'd be back shortly with rolls of coins, which I did, sold him $90 in mostly pennies, nickels & dimes. I had sold $100 in quarters to a friend who uses quarters for laundry in his building only last week.

I've been hitting up my other friends who let me search their stashes of coins from time to time. I told them why I'm trying to locate & purchase stashes of coins, telling them I'm a better alternative to lugging their stashes to a coinstar. I come to them, search & count & wrap coins, pay them & run off. easy peasy. I save them that 9.5% charge, too.

i score a lot of cool stuff (coins) from circle k, so I felt like I ought to help them out if I could. I've been trying to help out by locating coins & bringing them what I can. I'm not doing a whole lot else that's terribly important. feels good to lend a hand wherever I can. gotta keep that good juju flowing, you know? I don't want my occasional great finds to be interrupted by bad juju brought on by my not helping where I could. gotta keep that discovery stream active & fresh.

just trying to help is all.

Sounds like a great option for you!
I've still got about $100 in quarters left from my last box-search, and another $75 to $100 in copper cents I'd like to trade in for paper cash but my dump (coin-counter) bank is still shut down due to the virus. Aside from the wrapping job, I wish I had a second way to swap my excess change.

I work at a bank in Ohio and I have been asking people for change so I can supply it for my customers. I knew of one guy who rolled search and I asked if he could deposit any of his change at the branch. So he came in today with $90 in quarters, $500 in halves, and 500 in dollar coins. While I don't need the dollar coins I can use the halves and quarters to help supply businesses.
The topic also came up in my local coin store and the owner said he had about $500 in quarters he can give me for face value to help out. I just picked them up over the weekend and it looked like someone turned in their grandparents State Quarter rolls. The branch goes thru about 700+ a week and I had a little more than 1000 at the time before these 2 customers/non customers giving us coin.

coinsteel- nope, actually haven't found any silver in the wild in some time. I think the last silver I found was a 64-D roos dime I picked off the ground somewhere (november 2018). ((oops! edit: december 2019 I found 2 64-D roos dimes that month, one off the ground or in change and the other in a roll of dimes))

atticguy- you might just keep an ear open, somewhere someone may need them. got any friends who use coin-op laundry? or know anyone who works a cash register anywhere? I'm always vigilant when it comes to coin opportunities...

fistfulladirt- LOL! I could have last week, but not now. I have to save what's left of my stash in order to pay for my nightly coffee. if circle k still isn't giving out change after purchases then I need to bring correct change with me so I don't get stiffed out of my coffee change. I can deal with there not being fresh change for me to search, but I'm not going to give $2 for a cup of coffee that really costs $1.07. I'm going to bring the extra seven cents to go with my dollar. I like circle k, but not quite so much that i'll let them keep the change.

macmercury- you lucky critter, I am itchin to search a quantity of change. I hope you find some great stuff!
