This is currently available for sale. I'm thinking of possibly pulling the trigger on it. Does it look authentic? Could it be a modern counterfeit?

In this situation,
doesn't really matter if authentic or not.
What really matters in this case is,
a): How much silver is in the whole item,
If (a) is known, then
b): Do you like it?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that the silver yuan was welded into a bowl. If you are concerned with ts authenticity, especially if you are buying it online, maybe you can consider buying a certified copy? The link below shows the PCGS population report on this coin (the exact one is listed as 1914 $1 Y-329 LM-63). There is a total 44232 certified, so it should be pretty easy to find on eBay now and then!
