I have no idea what you're talking about. This site is plenty active and coin collecting is immensely popular right now due to the lockdowns.

Mmmm. Almost every retail outlet here (Western Australia) is taking card payments. No on wants to use cash. Hardly see any coins now.

Lack of money in circulation doesn't equal less people coin collecting. As Grape said, Covid has made many people take out their old collection and start it back up again. The amount of customers at the coin store I work at has not slowed down this summer, now we just wear masks.

@karloning inflation is really the reason that your not seeing many people bother with circulation of coinage now. coin collecting hasn't died down I think it may even be pickup massively for Australian coins, especially gimmicky 2 dollar coins ;).

I agree - it is not dead but I have not been able to pay in cash, receive change or handle coins for 3 months. Hence - no noodling. So satisfied my habit with a couple of trips to the bank. My point was - there are no coins circulating - at least in Perth

Hi Karloning,

I work at a retail store in Perth and there are still lots of people paying with cash, even if our official stance is that we don't except cash (you have to take what ever is on offer if you want the sales). I do the banking every morning and I have enough cash every day to keep me busy. ANZ are now giving out coin rolls too, so I love checking them too.

Steve :)

@ karloning I don't think that it really matters what the current cash flow is like ... if you want to noodle just pick up coins from your local bank.

As mentioned a few times here in the CCF before now, I always like to examine each coin in hand before deciding to buy.
For me, that means using public transport to attend public auction view days, and regularly visiting coin shows and bricks 'n mortar coin shops.

That doesn't happen any more, and so
I haven't added a coin to my collection for more than 6 months.
Fortunately, my collection has attained a level of maturity such that I don't need to add any more coins, until I can freely move around again - if that ever happens - it may not, until a vaccine is found. Australia has a candidate for that, due to begin 3rd stage trials soon.

I have collected across the whole of numismatics all centuries and cultures, in all metals. About 2,000 significant pieces.
As such, I now am able to use my collection for research and study purposes instead, much as a museum would.
I have a reasonable numismatic reference library and access to the internet to help me.

My lifetime interest continues.

I have just bought my third classic car. Somewhat of a pity - the car clubs are not functioning due to CV-19.

Triggersmob is in a good spot - Western Australia hasn't had a positive CV-19 case for quite some time.

We have had one or two recently, but they are
all returned travellers and locked away in isolation.
We have had no cases of local transmission.
