My son recently inherited this coin. It has a strange hole in the bottom. It does not go all the way through. Perhaps someone drilled it but I don't understand why they would only drill part way in. If it was drilled then it must have been packed around for quite some time after as the raised area around the hole has seen considerable wear.

If it was used as a stickpin (I know, it's kinda large for that), it would only have been drilled part way.

Why is the hole not all the way through? Who knows. People do all sorts of things to coins. All sorts of garage jobs exist.

We have seen all sorts of coin damage/ mutilation. Seriously, logic does NOT apply. No reason is necessary. Maybe the person started and somebody saw that and told them to stop. or maybe not.
