I did a double take on this. Had to make sure there was no variety listed. Please confirm for me ty!

That is shelf doubling, not the smearing of the devices.
I did notice a nice die break on the 'b' in liberty. But not a DDO.

That's MAJOR Machine Doubling. It doesn't add any value though and it's caused by the die bouncing or moving slightly after the coin was struck.
The first US coin motto was found on a 1792 half disme and read: "LIB (erty) PAR (ent) OF SCIENCE & INDUSTRY"

Something must have been broken on the machine. There are so many of these and they seem the same?

Most of the time Machine Doubling is random. (varies from strike to strike)
