Had to do it eventually, and it seemed like most of the known graded ones have been coming up for sale recently, so took the hit and won this one last Sunday on Great Collections.

This is the second most expensive coin for my DDO-001 collection, and honestly I figure I'll never have a 1969-S in it, so essentially the top end coins are now done. Still struggling through the last couple to complete the set, but mostly just minor stuff that's hard to find and not overly expensive. So now it is just a matter of time and not saving for a year to buy one coin.

The coin has quite a discolored smear on the obverse field, but honestly in hand it does not look nearly as awful as it does in a photo. I'm pleased to be able to get one with a 64 on the slab.

Thanks for the kind words! Much appreciated.

What is left is a bit of a mystery right now. I went through a fairly long dry spell without finding any new DDO-001 coins and so my list just got old. Last couple months I've added a couple so really need to pull this whole project out and make a proper spreadsheet so I know what exactly is missing and what desperately needs an upgrade. But I can say these are generally the ones I know I need and have been most actively hunting.

1938 proof. One was recently found by a CCF member so eventually I will find one. Hard to cherrypick as tough to see in photos and just few coin shows to go to now to look at them in hand.
1946-D. Half given up on this one. It's a minor class 6 with zero die markers. Probably just have to find one with mint mark in exactly the right spot and call it good.
1969-D. Tanman has one and has agreed to a trade so we will eventually do that and this one will be done.
1974-D. A collector I know has one and has agreed to give it to me but just haven't needled him lately to make that happen.
1975-P. Never have seen one but I keep looking.
1977-D. I think this one was somewhat recently listed as it wasn't on my original list but I saw it exists a while ago. Minor but easy to spot so hopefully find one soon enough.
1987-D. A CCF member has the plate coin in his collection, but that's still the only one I know of so just keep on searching.
1988-D. Just haven't found one yet.
1996-D. Never seen one but rarely get rolls of this date and almost need a CRH to scare one up and agree to sell or trade.
2004-P. Question is more, which one is it in the Wexler listings as then it should be easy to locate as he uses die markers.

Anyway, that's pretty much what I need to complete the set. There are a couple I want to pull out and double and triple check to be sure it's the right one as a couple are pretty tricky, but closing in on the goal which is one of all of them minus the 1969-S.

Congrats on acquiring this gorgeous variety. Beautiful example.

I was hoping to find one in a roll of 100 mixed solid date rolls I won at auction in Nov., but it didn't surface in the 1970S roll. Most of the rolls, a mix of wheats and memorials, are nice red ones that have dates written on them from 1981 so I'm hopeful.

BTW- I may have found one of the 87-D but haven't posted it yet because it was in poor shape and it was hard to tell if it is actual doubling or a plating issue on letters of LIBERTY. I'll see if I can dig it up.

EDIT: Found it but the MM appears to be a different location.

Hey bats it looks like the 46D is a minor rpm as well. On copper coins it isn't listed as ddo-001 but could be listed as one of the many rpms that year. If do they may have some die markers for you to go by.

Might be this one.

Thanks folks!

Sam, I use the CONECA list for my set, which is VV and thus DDO-001. I have a lot of WDDO-001 and 1DO-001 coins, but not trying to collect sets from all three, just the CONECA list. It's a hard enough list to complete without adding more things.

Will, Yes! The only mention of anything close to a die marker is the minor RPM. But I've looked at hundreds of 1946-D coins and dozens have a minor RPM on the lower serif. Both the light class 6 doubling and that minor RPM are common for the year, and unsure why this was listed in the first place. Maybe once I finally get one I am confident is the right die I will have some epiphany about how strong the doubling is, but just don't see it in the VV images.

Pete, you got me excited about maybe even a low-grade 1987-D out there. Bummer it wasn't.

I just got word that a CCF member is sending me a 1946-D which seems to fit all the requirements for DDO-001. When it arrives it'll get a good going over and overlay and hoping for the best. It's a pretty nice grade coin so shouldn't be any circulation issues to muddy the waters. Looks pretty darn close from the pics but can't see the lower serif well enough.

Hope? There is always hope. - Aragorn

Just saw the thread. I think you got it at a good price as well, given how you said you bit kinda low I didn't originally think you'd won it. Big congrats on it.
