I found this coin while noodling. At first I took it to be Iran 1939. It is 21mm diameter. Numista has a 1931 Cu-Ni 10 Dinar from Iran but no 1939. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Persian date is 1318, making this a 1940 100 Dinar coin, KM#962. Link to NGC guide below:

@norantyki - many thanks.

Found it in Numista here:

Numista however seems to be using Hijiri calander for Iran dates hence my inability to find it looking in the 1930s and 40s.

The problem with Numista is that crowd sourcing of knowledge only works if the crowd being sourced is knowledgeable.

Numista is actually right this time, these were issued in AH1318 (1900).

NGC has plenty of mistakes, too.
While I agree that I have seen more in Numista, at least there is a mechanism to correct them, which usually works well.

I thought Persia used the Jalali Calendar which runs from one solar spring equinox to the next. 1318 would therefore run from 22 March 1939 to 20 March 1940.

When did Iran change the calendar system on the coin dates?

During the first year of reign of the Pahlavi Dynasty, 31st March 1925. The dates on coins changed that year, from "1344" to "1304". Thus, in the Iranian series, coins dated "1318" occurred twice: first in AH 1318 (AD 1900-1901) and then in SH 1318 (AD 1939).

Must have been confusing for the folks back then, to be forced to live through the years "1304" to "1344" twice. It basically means that if you have an Iranian coin with a date in that numeral-range, you need to check both places in the catalogues.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
