So this coin is kind of strange. It looks like copper that has taken on a brownish toning. Although it has some dings it still has the original mint luster and cartwheel effect. In the lower light picture you can see where the tonning was rubbed off some of the high points while making contact with other coins and underneath is a bright copper color. Also down by the date it looks just like a zinc penny buried in the ground that develops those white rot zinc spots. Some of those white spots are also on the edge of the coin. Could it be a copper zinc half dollar?

Environmental tarnishing/staining/toning (take your pick). Could be from being buried in soil or dirty coffee holder are anywhere in-between (could be anywhere). We see so very many similar coins perhaps they deserve their own section. Bottomline is the same; post mint environmental damage. This coin did not leave the mint looking like this. Not a planchet error or any sort of alloy mixture error. No numismatic appeal. Value: face.

to the CCF! Keep searching!

Having said all that, if you like it, keep it. Could be a fun example to have and show.
