Hey all, I've stumbled upon a coin that has me pretty puzzled and wanted your guys input. It's a 1979 Lincoln cent with what appears to be a d over s?..

to CCF. Looks like a damaged D mint mark. I do not know of any OMM after 1955. Also, not a good idea to post photos of coins on a monitor.

I see a D mint mark suffering from a circulation hit (or two). Being a relatively soft metal, copper can be easily reshaped when hit.

I cNurman see where the MM looks like an RPM that could be D/S or D/D with the top D at an angle to the right. I looked at my standard places like Variety Vista, Lincoln Cent Resource, Variety Plus and did not see any RPMs listed for 1979.

Would someone at CONECA look at the photos and give an opinion? Doesn't ANACs do this sort of opinion for a much smaller fee than PCGS or NGC?

Stay well,

CCs' site has 3 RPM's listed. Those who know the minting process know it can not be a OMM.

Keep in mind, that a glancing blow leaves in incuse damage mark. A RPM would be raised not incuse:

Splits will be incuse, but a RPM would be raised.

CoopHome : RPMs will be raised on the mintmark/field areas. Only splits will be incuse areas
